Koyo in Nikkō - part 1 of 2

Tochigi, Nikkō

Tōshō-gū

Koyo in Nikkō
Konnichiwa! The first two day weekend trip brought us to Nikko - a town famous for Japan’s most lavishly decorated shrine, Tōshō-gū - and its breathtaking autumn foliage - Koyo.
Definitely a magical place, especially during Autumn, surrounded by a lot of nature.
Arriving in Nikkō, we walked up the main road until we reached the iconic Shinkyo Bridge. After crossing the river we followed a path framed by beautiful autumn foliage leading us to the Rinno-ji Temple. On the way we passed the Statue of Shodo Shonin.
The next stop was the famous Nikkō Tōshō-gū - an extremely mystical yet beautiful place. Within the Tōshō-gū area stairs lead up to the Okumiyahaiden Shinto Shrine.
After that we walked through Nikko Futarasan jinja and then all the way up to the Nikkosanrinno-ji Taiyuin.
Around sunset we reached the Kanmagafuchi Abyss, which was the last sight this day - a natural, beautifully shaped river landscape. Definitely worth a visit.
