Hokkaidō Winter Wonder Land - part 1 of 4

Niseko, Hokkaidō

Surfing through the powder snow

Japan’s North.
As I am a big winter fan a visit on Hokkaidō was a must. I remember mentioning in one of my posts, that Tokyo is really not that cold in winter, well Hokkaidō is super cold in winter. Too cold!
The trip started in Niseko, a popular ski resort especially amongst foreigners. Of all places in Japan which I have seen, this place had the most foreigners by far. It felt like not being in Japan, except for the food.
I wasn’t prepared well for the cold, I didn’t bring much and rented the essentials like board, helmet and googles. Nevertheless, the snowboarding was amazing. Compared to Europe, the snow in Niseko is endless and very powdery. They get so much snow there and the consitency is a dream - endless powder snow.
After a couple days in Niseko we headed to Sapporo with a quick stop in Otaru.
