Temples and a lot of deer

Nara

Tōdai-ji with cherry blossom

You like deer? - You will love Nara.
Nara was Japan’s first permanent capital, which is the reason why it has a lot of historic treasures to offer.
In the center of Nara, parks are aligned with each other and contain interesting religious buildings like the Tōdai-ji (temple) with an impressively big Buddha statue. Furthermore there is a beautiful Japanese garden - Isuien - and lots of wild deer. They are used to humans. It is possible to buy some crackers to feed them, so naturally they come close and can get really cheeky.
We chose to visit Nara during the Omizutori Buddhist ceremonies. This was truly unique and I can definitely recommend attending those ceremonies.
In the south-west of Nara’s center, ther world’s oldest wooden buildings are located. They are beautiful and impressive.
Nara is definitely one of my favourite places in Japan - mainly because of the deer. I love animals - so deer just walking around freely in a city makes me so happy. ;)
Thank you for reading.
